FREESTONE TRAIL SCHOLARSHIP
We know trail running isn’t free (though we wish it were!) and that financial barriers are often a major reason why diverse voices and runners don’t make it to the start line
That’s why Freestone Endurance teamed up with Altra Running to create
— The Freestone Trail Scholarship —
A trail running scholarship built to lift up runners from the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities and break down the barriers that can make chasing big goals feel out of reach
This scholarship is for all runners —whether you're lacing up for your first trail race or you're a seasoned runner with a few under your belt
15 spots are available for Colorado based athletes in West Line Winder 30K/50K , Sawatch Ascent 50K and Sawatch 50/50 (a 2027 High Lo qualifier)
2 spots are available for all US based athletes in the High Lonesome 100
*if you get drawn in the High Lonesome Lottery, you can still apply for the scholarship
In addition to a free race entry (valid for 2026 only), 30K/50K runners will receive a $500 stipend, 50/50 runners will receive a $750 stipend, and High Lonesome runners will receive a $2,000 stipend to support whatever they need to reach the start line.
All athletes will also receive a pair of Altra trail shoes, monthly coaching support and access to a community Discord. Additionally, 30K/50K runners will have the option to reserve discounted weekend lodging with meals included at Sage Stone Lodge in Twin Lakes, Colorado.
Scholarship recipients will be announced on Feb 6th.
